DVDO iScan HD Now Shipping

Campbell, CA (ContentDesk) March 22, 2004 -- Anchor Bay Technologies, Inc. announced today that the company has begun first customer shipments of the new DVDO iScan? HD High Resolution Video Scaling Engine, incorporating ABT's new Precision Video Scaling? technology. The iScan HD is a video scaling processor and A/V switcher that produces display-optimized video at a wide range of output resolutions, aspect ratios, and refresh rates, independent of input format. The product accepts as input all standard NTSC and PAL video formats, as well as ATSC-standard DTV 480p, 720p, and 1080i high-definition video. This makes it suitable for use with all video products worldwide, including DVD players, VCRs, digital video recorders, laserdisc players, and other audio/video sources.Performing deinterlacing and precision resolution upconversion on 480i (or 576i) video signals, the iScan HD provides output video quality approaching High Definition (HD), from all Standard Definition sources. Progressive-scan 480p signals are also scaled to near-HD quality, and outputs spanning from 480p all the way to 1080p are supported.

Also supported are video output resolutions greater than 1080p, such as 1440 x 1152. High-definition signals are automatically passed through to the output using ABT's new Automatic Video Format Routing? architecture. This allows the use of Component video inputs on the product, for both SD and HD video sources. The design of the iScan HD offers maximum flexibility and adjustability, so that video sources are converted to the optimum resolution for the specific display device, including plasma display panels, DLP projectors, front and rear projection CRTs, LCD panels, D-ILA projectors, and other advanced high-resolution display technologies. This results in superior image quality and best-in-class front-of-screen performance. The iScan HD also incorporates a suite of sophisticated video processing and display adjustment features and technologies. These include precision programmable framerate conversion and timebase correction, video zoom, pan, and border controls, input and output aspect ratio control, automatic chroma upsampling error correction, and precision digital controls for brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, Y/C delay, and sharpness.

All settings are customizable per input, and stored in nonvolatile memory. In addition to delivering greatly enhanced picture quality, the iScan HD acts as a hub for all AV source devices. It accepts up to eight discrete video and four digital audio inputs, with two video outputs (analog and digital) and two digital audio outputs (optical and coaxial). This allows seamless connection of DVD players, satellite receivers, DTV receivers, digital video recorders, video game consoles, VCRs, laserdisc players, and PC video directly to the iScan HD, while also handling switching and delay synchronization of digital audio streams. This makes the iScan HD suitable for use in both home theater and professional AV installations, such as corporate boardrooms, churches, and other large-venue or head-end applications. The iScan HD features ABT's new Precision Video Scaling technology, combined with many other new audio/video technologies including Automatic Chroma Upsampling Error Correction (AutoCUE-C ) and Precision AV Lipsync? automatic digital audio delay.About DVDODVDO, an Anchor Bay Technologies brand, is an award-winning leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of semiconductor and system-level solutions for next generation HDTV and digital audio/video products. FrequenSea With Marine Phytoplankton Creating an Amazing Story Relating to Diabetes and Cancer

(ContentDesk) January 23, 2006 -- Marine Phytoplankton created in the ocean is the oldest food known to mankind. A sea farmer named Tom Harper harvests this Phytoplankton for his shellfish. As chance would have it, he became ill with diabetes and a rare cancer. So he did the unthinkable and ate the Phytoplankton. He has now recovered and created the newest superfood available to humans. The sea farm owned by Tom Harper is situated in British Columbia, Canada.

The $30 million dollar facility has the exclusive technology to extract the phytoplankton from the ocean to the land. This is a remarkable achievement considering how tiny these single-celled plants are. Phyto means Light and Plankton means Floating/Suspended.NASA scientists theorize that Phytoplankton are 3 1/2 billion years old or so. These single celled plants have the ability to convert sunlight, warmth, water and minerals into protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and amino acids. Phytoplankton are responsible for making...

THE ETIOLOGY OF DIABETES MELLITUS

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by relative or absolute deficiency of insulin, resulting in glucose intolerance. It occurs in 4-5 million persons in the United States (approximately 2% of the population). The classic symptoms of diabetes mellitus result from abnormal glucose metabolism. The lack of insulin activity results in failure of transfer of glucose from the plasma into the cells. This situation so called "starvation in the midst of plenty".

The body responds as if it were in the fasting state, with stimulation of glucogenolysis, gluconeogenesis and lipolysis producing ketone bodies. The glucose absorbed during a meal is not metabolized at the normal rate and therefore accumulates in the blood (hyperglycemia) to be excreted in the urine (glycosuria). Glucose in the urine causes osmotic diuresis, leading to increase urine production (polyuria). Stimulation of protein breakdown to provide amino acids for gluconeogenesis results in muscle wasting and weight...

How Do Plasma Televisions Work?

Plasma TVs have been one of the most popular home entertainment solutions on the market for several years. They offer outstanding resolution and a quality picture and are usually capable of displaying HDTV signals, allowing you to watch all of your favourite HDTV programs. Compared to rear projection TVs, plasma technology offers some of the best viewing angles- no need to fight over the best seat anymore- and offer uniform screen brightness. But how does plasma technology work? It's pretty simple. Some form of inert gas- say Xenon, for example, is inserted between two plates, which are held together, between which are over two million pixels, capable of producing a mind-boggling array of colors. The gas is then energized by a charge which turns it into a viscous substance, creating an ultraviolet light, which allows each pixel to display the appropriate color.

Unlike rear-projection TVs, each pixel in a plasma display contains red, blue, and green phosphors, there is no need for...

The Facts About DLP VS Plasma TVs

With advancing technology revolutionizing the television viewing field, consumers have more choices than ever before. And as is often the case with electronics, it can be confusing. Terms and acronyms are used in the electronics industry that you just don't find anywhere else, and if you aren't careful it can keep you from buying newer technology simply because you don't understand it well. That can certainly be the case with modern TV monitors.

The old analog TV sets of yesteryear did not have to have a very advanced monitor because the TV signal was only so good anyway, So CRT monitors lasted as the screen choice for decades. But now with HDTV moving the entire viewing experience forward in dramatic fashion, better ways of producing the on-screen image is in full production.

Two of those competing screen technologies are plasma TVs and DLPs (digital light processing TVs).

Both types of screen technologies have been around for a while, although DLPs...
